Happy Cinco de Mayo!  Went down to an open house at the Ecco Ultra Lounge on Cahuenga tonight to meet up with some people and talk shop.  Ecco is one of the nation’s first L.E.E.D. certified nightclubs, and nearly EVERYTHING (the speaker system, the hand drying machines, and yes, even the cement!) is eco-friendly.  I’m more of a dingy bar guy normally, but I definitely dug this place.

Woo!  Shameless venue promotion over!  Thanks for the Coronas, Ecco - I will be gracing your Bamboo dance floor again in the near future.

Anyway, it’s still Tuesday in Hawaii, the Cook Islands, and Tokelau, and Tuesday is traditionally new music release day, so here’s some music to check out!

In early 2008, I was contacted by British singer-songwriter Olivia Broadfield on Myspace asking me to check out her music.  At the time, we were working on “The Real World: Hollywood”, and many of her songs fit perfectly, so we placed them.  The response Olivia got from these spots was astounding, and since then, she’s gotten songs on a number of other shows, signed a record deal, recorded a track with Guy Sigsworth (of Frou Frou fame), and most recently, her song “Indescribable” was featured in a commercial for the 2009 Lincoln MKS that aired nationwide during the Grammys.

Olivia’s debut album “Eyes Wide Open” releases on Vagrant Records later this year; in the meantime, you can check out the remastered version of her single “Don’t Cry” today!

Tonight, I saw Curtis Peoples and Intercept.  Both were great; no camera yet so I can’t dazzle you with photos upon photos of awesomeness…but trust me, tonight was a great night for live music.

We had an afterparty at the Casa de Petau; enjoyed some Sam Adams White and talked a bit about the music industry.  I’ve never been more excited about helping musicians make their living; it’s a tough time for the old label and publisher establishment, but at the same time, there has never been a better time to discover a new model to gain fame and fortune for your artist.

I’ll find you there”
